RCA I, RCA120, Agarose
- Supplier: Vector Laboratories
- Ricinus Communis Agglutinin I (RCA I, RCA120), Agarose bound, 10 ml, is an agarose-conjugated lectin comprising two subunits of 60 kDa that can be dissociated by reducing agents into closely related chains of 27–33 kDa. One chain appears to be common to the B chain of another castor bean lectin, ricin, while the other chain is unique to RCA I. Lectin–bead attachment is carefully controlled to preserve lectin activity and minimize conformational changes that might result in non-specific ionic or hydrophobic interactions. It involves inserting a hydrophilic spacer arm between the lectin and the matrix and improves on the traditional cyanogen bromide procedure by retaining the maximum carbohydrate binding activity of the coupled lectin and providing stable linkage over a range of pH values. This product is supplied as a hydrated matrix solution at a constant concentration of lectin per ml of settled beads.
