Jena Bioscience - Linker-optimized Cy3- and Cy5-modified dUTPs
Labeling of DNA probes for in situ hybridization is most often performed by enzymatic incorporation of labeled dUTP using Taq DNA polymerase. The new linker-optimized Cy3- and Cy5-modified dUTPs possess a longer linker resulting in higher labeling efficiencies at similar substitution rates.
- Recommended for direct enzymatic labeling of DNA/cDNA e.g. by PCR and Nick Translation
- Incorporated as substitute for its natural counterpart dTTP
- The resulting Dye-labeled DNA/cDNA probes are ideally suited for fluorescence hybridization applications such as FISH or microarray-based gene expression profiling

TECHNICAL REPORT
Hycult Biotech – NETs are Associated with Inflammation in Asthma and COPD
Summary of Wright, T et al; Neutrophil extracellular traps are associated with inflammation in chronic airway disease. Respirology, April 2016. Click here for the full article.
Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are created when neutrophils release granule proteins, histones and chromatin to form extracellular matrices. They represent an important strategy to immobilize and kill invading microorganisms, yet their role in respiratory disease remains unclear.
This study aimed to investigate the presence of NETs in sputum from patients with asthma and COPD, and the relationship of NETs with inflammatory phenotype and disease severity. Sputum of 44 COPD patients, 94 asthma patients and 27 healthy controls was collected and used to quantify granular proteins (α-defensins 1-3 and LL-37), gene expression and extracellular DNA. Results of the study indicate that eDNA and antimicrobial proteins accumulate in the airways in asthma and COPD. The paper further concludes that NETs and NET components are elevated in severe neutrophilic asthma and COPD, and are associated with other markers of activated innate immune responses.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
We are pleased to announce the addition of 2 new Technical Sales Representatives to our team
Kevin Coll in Toronto
Kevin received his B.Sc. in Biological Science from the University of Guelph in 2013. He also minored in Zoology and Business Administration. While at Guelph, Kevin was involved in a number of volunteer positions, including organizing a local soccer league, establishing a student-run club, the Biomimicry Collaboration, as well as working as a Research Assistant in multiple labs. After graduation, Kevin worked as a scientific officer for a research-based not-for-profit organization called FRAME (the Fund for the Replacement of Animals in Medical Experiments) in England. His focus was to research viable alternatives to the use of animals in experimental procedures that provided comparable or better results.
